I like the book but I find the title to be misleading. There is very little technical information on "care & repair". If you are a 1911 fan, by all means go ahead and get it. But if you are looking for something technical look for a more complete text.

I felt I knew most of the techniques about interviewing , but this book made me re-think my approach. It identifies the interview almost as a battle with you as the defender who needs to divert the attacker away from your weak points. I had never thought the way you sit was important. I had never thought that you needed to be so devious, but it is true ! At the interview you are playing a game and you need to know thet rules you need to win.

As a recruitment consultant, I often lent this book to my candidates, and certainly recommended it to everyone who enquired. Now someone has taken it, and I can't remember who!!
Shame it's out of print, because it sat so neatly in coat pockets, and made the best reading for job applicants while waiting for the right time to approach the reception desk. :-(

Basic interviewing tips for those just starting out. For example, do you really need to be told to wear a suit, bring a copy of your resume/CV, or research the company your are interviewing with? If so, this book's for you. But then, so is the internet, where all of these "tips" are available for free. Perhaps there is really nothing new to say to those learning how to perfect their interviewing skills, and if so, the best advice I can give to everyone (and myself) is to practice in front of a friend who can give you constructive criticism.

'Celebrity Psychic' books can seem lofty to those wanting to pursue their own development. Do you want a book that will impress you? Or a book that will help you? Both have their place. The helpful books can be harder to find, though.
This book is written with so little ego that it's sincerity shines. It is an extraordinarily practical summary of technique. It is also a reassuring reach-out to 'reluctant psychics' who are encountering their own doubts.
Extraordinary value, even if it were twice the price! Glad I purchased it. (Also useful as a basic reference book).

Until reading this book, I had never found a resource about spiritual gifts/abilities that provided so much accessibility and true inspiration to bravely face that quiet part of ourselves and our lives that society so rarely addresses. For me, this was like finally finding a friend that "gets it," not only encouraging the reader to believe in him/herself but reaffirming much of that internal self that so many of us learn to doubt early on in childhood. Jake Kerr has done it again!

Jake Kerr has done it again! Usually the 2nd book in a series is not only the less well-written but also the darkest! Not here! This is as action-packed as the previous volume; the thickening plot travels up & down as constantly as a weather graph. Jake does have a talent for building anticipation while stealthily imparting more information crucial to storyline elements. Tommy is the epitome of the Quest hero: snatched suddenly out of his innocent, everyday life & thrust into the realization that he is the only being who can & must perform. He joins the likes of Frodo, Ged, & Rand and becomes that pinnacle to which we all aspire if in the same situation. But Tommy yo-yo's so much that sometimes you cheer him on & other times you want to thump his head & say, "What are you thinking?!" Tommy is pure goodness though with much reticent naivete', always seeing issues in black & white unlike Naomi. Naomi, on the other hand, is quite the strong, spunky, intelligent, aggressive heroine - the perfect foil & complement to Tommy. Their age-appropriate dialogue us so realistic that if you are quiet enough, you can almost hear them talking! Tommy has the typical teenage angst, self-doubts, & hormonal zaps but still manages to muddle through before seeing clearly. Tommy & Naomi have their first - but wait! - find out for yourself! A great action-filled, well-paced plot; caring, full-fleshed characters; love, loss, friendship, betrayal, forgiveness, triumph. You just can't put it down! What more can you ask? That's Jake Kerr!

Interesting fantasy, looking forward to seeing where it goes

Even though this book says it's geared for grades 6-10, I think at least these first two books are definitely safe for middle-schoolers. YA and middle school fantasy and science fiction are some of my favorite books, as well as enjoyed by many of my friends. If we closed our libraries to YA or middle-school designations simply because we're adults, we would have missed Howl's Moving Castle, Harry Potter, the Hunger Games, Tuesdays at the Castle, the May Bird trilogy, Girl of Fire and Thorns, and thousands of others. Just to say, I don't think the grade designation is important, except to indicate the youngest age a book is safe for.

The characters in the story are gaining reputations of power. The girl really deserves and has earned her power/expertise through years of hard work. I enjoy the added scenes and imagery showing how hard she works to hone her craft. She tends to be the cerebral partner.

The boy is automatically powerful by birth. (When the story starts, we find his grandfather sheltered him and kept him ignorant of the world of magic and the staff. He thinks he lives in a "normal" world.) He does not use his new power for those in political power, but to free entities that have been feared or enslaved for centuries, and he does this without expectation of reward. He does it simply because it's the right ting to do. While he's been earning respect by freeing slaves, I hope he continues to expand his quest for justice while fighting against those in power and showing he is the true inheritor of the staff and it's mission. While I'm a bit put off folks are like our hero, who is "the most powerful archmage ever" just by dint of existing, I feel the author is moving beyond that trope.

I feel strongly enough about this book that I bought the first book after reading the first chapter or so of the second book, and I intend to buy the next book. I'm really looking forward to learning more about the characters and the staff.

It's an good story, though, and I hope the author fleshes out the price and responsibilities of power.

There is so much to love about this book, from the characters, the magical world blended with our world, and the fast paced action. Really recommended for young readers who like vivid adventures.

Must Have For Any Manual Therapist

I might be a minority, here, but I'm actually a massage therapist who has had the opportunity to use the techniques in Dr. Barral's books. I don't have to opportunity to use the techniques nearly as much as an MD, ND, or Osteopath would, but every once in a while someone will come in with a problem that is perfect for me to try this for. Please note that many of these techniques are extremely subtle and gentle, like Cranio-sacral therapies. The more direct manipulations are perfect for a therapist to incorporate into almost any kind of session: for instance liver, stomach, or colon manipulations can quickly and easily be thrown into any relaxation or therapeutic massage.
To say that the techniques work would be an understatement. Even me, as a massage therapist, have had good results, and at times astonishing results using these techniques. I've had particular luck with the liver manipulations. One lady had some kind of lead poisoning (according to the docs) and said it damaged her nervous system and she would have to live with it the rest of her life. She experienced severe headaches, right shoulder pain, nausea, dizziness, during every menstrual cycle and it was so bad she actually considered suicide. She'd had this for about ten years by the time I met her and this sounded like a classic liver issue, so when I offered to try this she was more than ready.
In THREE sessions, her symptoms decreased a staggering 70%!! Also, please note that I didn't even do the more invasive seated techniques to release all the supporting ligaments. I ONLY did the costal techniques where you work through the ribs, and did induction at the end.
I moved away so I couldn't continue treatment, but the client informed me that she followed up with a liver cleanse which got rid of the remainder of her symptoms. THIS is what hands on healing is all about. Amazing stuff.

Excellent

I read it before taking Barral's VM1 as required reading, but it didn't really "click" until AFTER the class.

So, EXCELLENT book, GREAT information... but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who hasn't taken Visceral Manipulation, or doesn't plan to. There's really no way to get the feel of this work by reading the book and looking at the pictures by themselves.

Worthwhile Revision!

This already excellent text has been significantly updated with more direct explanations, greatly improved illustrations, and a more complete, better organized text. All this creates much greater specific clinical applicability. Even if you own the first edition, this is a book well worth your while to buy again!

GOOD BOOK

The book was in awesome condition, better than expected and the stcker in the front had not been scratched off so i was able to register the book in my prep u account. I feel this deserved more money for that detail. The book arrived very fast and it was well protected. The book itself is super interesting , it goes straight to the point and it has many tables were you can read examples and it also comes with the nursing diagnosis (examples) that will help you understand the topic better.

Required book for my nursing class....

Good book, not really sure what to compare it to. This was a required book for my psych nursing class. One note I want to mention is the amazing delivery. With Prime it was delivered within only 48hrs from time ordered.

A must if you haven't used Outlook for a while

I used to be an administrative assistant, and when my old home computer crashed last month, I replaced it with a new model -- Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2016, It was a shock to see how obsolete my Microsoft Office skills had become in five years of retirement, so I simply had no choice but to buy this book to start reloading all the Outlook data I had lost. Instructions are at once succinct, clear, and thorough, thank goodness! So far, the only complaint I have is that this volume is smaller than other "Dummies" I have bought in the past. Therefore, the graphics are smaller, and I had to hunt for a magnifying glass.

A Little Book That Stirs Big Thoughts.

We usually look upon our world as a normally ordered place where everything works as it is expected to - flowers bloom, babies are born, airplanes fly, etc. We take it all for granted without much thought or examination. After reading Dr. Goenka's book, "Does The Atom Have A Designer?", in which he describes the marvelous Atom with its interacting particles, I can not help but look upon my world, and indeed my very existence, with renewed wonder and mystery. This is a little book that can stir big thoughts.

The complexities of the Atom, "the building block of matter" - of material existence - and what it accomplishes, raises greater questions of "why," and "how," the Atom functions at all. Could something so perfect and intricate, Dr. Goenka asks, come into existence by chance, or by Design?

Dr. Goenka can not answer the mystery of the Atom for us, nor does he attempt to, but by examining the functionality of the Atom with its constituent subatomic particles we are led to ponder deeper questions.

The physicist can take us to the outer edges of the matter world, to the very exotically named particles such as quarks and leptons and gluons that comprise it. But further they are unable to go as scientists. Here, rather, the baton of inquiry is handed off to us. After all, it is only we who can give meaning to our existence - or not.

Great read!

Dr. Goenka makes a very compelling argument. The building blocks of our entire known universe are proof that there is a "Designer." He makes what I consider a formal proof. He takes you from the initial question using current knowledge and logically moves forward to the end conclusion, all the while using current evidence. While it is a relatively small amount of text, each sentance moves your mind to the next step of the proof, making it a dense but quick read. It is an extremely logical and compelling work of writing. I applaud Dr. Goenka on his work and I look forward to other works to come.

Thought Provoking Look at the Atomic Sructure.

There is a lot of argument about whether the biological world has a design indicating intelligence behind that design. Does the Atom have a Design? asks if the basic building blocks of the inanimate universe, the atom, has a design. Although as a physicist I knew the parts of an atom, I had never thought about how amazing it was that the components which one would think are incompatible form a very stable entity we call an atom. I think Dr. Goenka gives a good argument that it took an intelligent designer to bring those components together.

About the Author

Alan Flusser is the author of a number of books about men's style, including Dressing the Man. He is the president of Alan Flusser Designs, a company he founded in 1979. He attracted national attention in 1987 for Michael Douglas's wardrobe in Wall Street, as well as later acclaim for his work on the HBO movie Barbarians at the Gate, the Al Pacino movie Scent of a Woman, and American Psycho starring Christian Bale. In 1988, he was placed as a permanent member on the International Best-Dressed List.

Classic book on timeless men's fashion: perfect graduation gift for young men

This is a great book about achieving a timeless look and acquiring quality apparel. Like most men, I was never taught anything at all about color coordination or how to match patterns, let alone judge the quality of clothing. I just assumed that it was a talent that some people are simply born with. While it might be true that some people are gifted in that regard, it is also a skill that can be both taught and learned.

This book is one of several that I credit for teaching me the basics of dressing well and it has been absolutely indispensable in my professional career. I only wish someone had given it to me as a graduation gift.

My only gripe about this book is that Flusser skimps on some details which are made obvious only by their absence. Flusser specifically writes about the importance of color and finding one's personal colors based on the strength of your natural color (skin tone and hair). Flusser goes on to explain how, in ye olden days, men's magazines often had articles discussing and applying color theory to dress and explanations about how one can match clothing colors to personal color to create a pleasing appearance. And that's it. Although he certainly is aware of different theories of how to do these things, they are conspicuously absent from the book.

That's a major failing that I hope will be corrected in later editions or by other works. That said, this book is a good gateway into the world of men's fashion that will give the reader a solid foundation for assembling a timeless and functional wardrobe with plenty of practical tips for doing so.

30 something young professional; add to your appeal by knowing yourself and showing it

This is my first "fashion" book. I used to think i understood a good fit; when the tailor at Brooks Brothers, Nordstroms, etc.. came out and just measured. WRONG. Thank you Alan Flusser. The Tailor is just the last stop in a chain of events that you didn't know existed.

There is more to a good fit than taking in or letting out. This is what prompted me to finally start making changes in how I purchase my few key suites, jackets, dress pants, and dress shirts. I followed Alan's process for identifying the type of clothing best suited for my face, height, and personal style. There are of course specific terms for all the areas of focus, and you will learn them from this book. However the "coup de grace" is that he has photo's of the same attire on different people, and different attire on the same person. Fashion is a visual game. Just like a great sports announcer who can cater to the veteran player watching or the first time fan, he makes it accessible and understandable while not leaving the better informed bored.

Now the big finish. Ever since I followed some of his advice, I've felt more in comfortable and confident in certain "high expectations" situations. With focus on the big items such as colors and patterns, the small stuff such as the proper reveal at the wrist/cuff under a suit jacket just sets it all off and puts you in another league. People will notice, and they won't know what you did, just that you did it right. Because the answer is no one thing, but all in combination.

Timeless, for reference or a pleasure read

Alan Flusser is a men's fashion genius. Any gentleman who pays attentions to detail in his wardrobe will appreciate this timeless look at men's fashion.

It provides a rich history and thorough discussion of every component of men's fashion: shirt patterns and materials, including seasonal considerations; collar styles; tie patterns/colors and how to best coordinate them; pocket squares; lapel cuts, styles, widths, etc.; the shape of men's jackets; sport coats and blazers; the shape and cut of trousers. It even has a detailed section on shoes.

The book discusses fashion icons of different eras, giving the reader a sense of what makes noticeable and timeless fashion.

I highly recommend this book for actual reference in men's wardrobe decision-making or just perusing with a glass of cognac in front of the fire.
