This is my personal journey through one of the greatest warrior and leadership cultures of today, which ultimately provided me with defining leadership characteristics and the skills of a serious warrior. Nobody is born a great leader, they are made through hard work and determination. My first Indian name given to me by the medicine man when I was a child was Bobcat. As I grew and became a young man, I returned home from my first combat experience and was given my warrior's name, Evergreen Mountain. I am an American, first and foremost, but I am also a Pueblo and Yaqui Indian. I am a former member of the US Army’s 18th Airborne Corps, 75th Ranger Regiment, and spent most of my career as an operational member of a Special Missions Unit under the United States Army Special Operations Command. These are some of my most important leadership lessons learned from the battlefield of the war on terror. It is my sincere hope that this book serves as a resource and a compass, providing direction and guidance for individuals seeking or in a leadership position.

About the Author
Rob Trivino is retired from a long career in the United States Army. During his time on active duty he was assigned to several units; he spent the majority of his time in service assigned as an operational member of a United States Army Special Missions Unit under the United States Army Special Operations Command. Rob has extensive peacetime and wartime leadership and tactical experience, leading small teams and larger maneuver elements in combat at the ground tactical level. He has deployed on multiple combat missions to the Balkans, Afghanistan, and Iraq and has served as a Sniper Team Leader, Operations Sergeant Major, and both Assault and Sniper Element Sergeants Major. In his final assignment, Rob served as a senior enlisted advisor for a multi-service organization supporting the special operations community. Rob's awards and decorations include the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, 5 Bronze Stars (2 for Valor), and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. The BEST book on leadership I have ever read

I have read a great many books on management, leadership, motivation, etc over the years, as well as many biographies/autobiographies of special operations soldiers. I also graduated from one of the top business schools in the country that claimed to produce leaders (and does, but not because of what is taught). I can tell you with all sincerity none of the above addresses TRUE leadership the way Robert has and the best part is he keeps it simple and accessible--straight to the point, no BS. This is not a book on the military or military leadership--it is on leadership period, the military aspects are only used to illustrate his points. If you're looking for a military story there is some of that in here but you'll be disappointed if that is ALL you are seeking. Everyone should read this book, not just "leaders". Even if one is not in a leadership role, everyone needs to lead his/her own life! We are social creatures by nature and every social interaction requires the skills and methodology contained in this book. It doesn't matter if you're a CEO or a stay at home parent, you WILL benefit from this book. I come from a very long line of military on both sides of my family. I learned my leadership style (very similar to Robert's) from my father, who credits the Navy for his very successful financial career. I have been quite successful in my own career by following the same tenets of leadership Robert so brilliantly presents in this book. This year I have trained with several former Green Beret and Delta operators, every one of whom is first rate! While Navy SEALs get a lot of press, and I've known a few, I have found Delta guys have the most to offer in so many areas. These guys are not ego driven as a rule, in fact the vast majority are extremely humble, as is Robert. I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting men who served with Robert, men who are legends in their own right, tell me Robert's legacy and influence in Delta is profound. Buy this book today, you will be thoroughly engaged and it may change your life. I feel so strongly about it that I am buying several copies on my own dime to give to friends and coworkers.

Special operations soldier shares his hard earned experiences

Rob Trivino shares his hard earned leadership lessons with anybody willing to work hard to become a more effective leader. This is a great book and hard to put down. If you are looking for a shortcut to appearing to be a leader, this is not the book for you. Rob demonstrates that to become a better leader you must become a better person. Character is at the core of Rob's leadership principles. Rob is a very humble guy with a tremendous amount of credibility. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

like any other skill

After having served in the Marine Corps and currently assigned to a tactical unit for a large police force, one would think that leadership would be a natural skill. However, like any other skill, leadership needs to be cultivated, practiced and refined. Rob Trivino's book gives you a no nonsense view on how this came about for this humble hero. This book gives you real life experiences that every new military recruit, policeman, or business manager can use to improve their own role as a leader or start to build those important skills. The book keeps you wanting to read page after page, and in the end, leaves the reader reflecting on their own performance. This reader is in full agreement that leaders are made, and this book gives clear direction on what it takes to achieve that goal. As stated earlier, this book is a must have for any person in a potential leadership position.
