About the Author
Michael Brown was born in the Chatham Islands in 1948. He is married with two boys, living in Christchurch, New Zealand. He is a trainer and consultant in media and presentation skills. He was a reporter, director and presenter of news and current affairs programs for Television New Zealand and also worked on secondment to the BBC. As early as 10 years old, he wanted to understand this: "If there is a God, why is there so much pain in my world?" Which soon became the question that has always fascinated humanity, "What is it all about?" Or, simply, "Who am I?" From the beginning, he rejected the standard religious explanations and spent many years hunting for the answer, delving into philosophy, religion, spiritual practices, and science (particularly quantum physics). The journey was, at times, intense and painful, including incarceration in a psychiatric institution, and trekking into a remote region of the Andes to find a secret monastery. The result of that 50 year search is Finding the Field, which folds the ancient, universal truths directly into a modern story. In the Zone

I am an artist. And often when I paint, I enter a kind of zone (field) where I feel no difference between myself, the brush, the paint or the canvas. As an artist of life, any reader can experience that same kind of oneness with the Universe simply by surrendering themselves to the endless fun, joys and benefits of Finding the Field.
For anyone interested in feeling more inner harmony, peace of mind, and clearer access to their own place of inner wisdom, this book is truly one of the best, most enlightened books out there. It is also the perfect story to treat yourself to if you want to feel your heart beat faster and your fingers colliding with each other in their hurry to turn the pages.
Finding the Field is nothing less than a brilliant piece of artistry. Thank you Mr. Brown, for this life changing gift.

Finding a bloody good read!

'Finding the Field' is the academics version of 'The Celestine Prophecy'.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and went onto recommend it to my local Book Discussion Book and ordered 10 more copies.
The author, Michael Brown, was pure enjoyment to read as he didn't 'dumb down' for his readers, as many authors will do. I found myself using my dictionary and really enjoyed discovering a higher vocabulary.
A completely enjoyable read and my newest 'favourite book'!
Well done, Michael Brown! Keep them coming.

Too clever for its own good?

Finding the field is an interesting story that serves as a vehicle for a life philosophy where we create our own lives and take responsibility for how it turns out. Unfortunately the story spent too much time being clever with its plot twists, and not enough time illustrating the more positive aspects of the philosophy. It is in fact a very bleak and negative story much of the time, although I understand this is in an attempt to set the context for the old man explaining the field and the secrets to life. Its clever, but I suspect it will appeal more to the "converted" than to someone not so well acquainted to Brown's philosophy. There are also some important details at the start that one needs to pick up on, if the rest of the book is to make sense. I initially found the overly flowery and descriptive manner of writing a bit off putting at first, though I later warmed to it. There is a major twist at the end of the story, but what left me somewhat disappointed was that there was really very little impression that the old man had lived a wonderful, happy, and fulfilling life that ended with great satisfaction as a result of his life "knowledge". That should have been the point of the book, but seemed to have got lost in the desire to be too clever with the plot.
