A dynamic and popular presenter, he has spoken throughout North America on education and human development topics. He makes his home outside of Toronto, Canada.

Play, Passion, Purpose

My focus as an educator, parent and business owner, is on transforming teaching and learning to support all learners and help them meet with success. I believe we are failing this generation of learners through content driven instruction that focuses on a narrow set of skills in a highly structured environment. No where is our failure more keenly felt than with boys who are tuning out and dropping out at an alarming rate.
In Dr. Dixon's eminently readable book, he shows the reader practical, boy-friendly ways to bring play, passion and purpose to life through the 6 secrets. Dr. Dixon provides easy to grasp, concrete suggestions and practices to support boys, and increase their engagement in the classroom. As both teacher and parent, I found that the information in this book really helped me to better understand the boys in my classroom and my own active son. I highly recommend this book! In Helping Boys Learn: 6 Secrets for Success in School, Ed Dixon has painted a true picture of what success in the classroom looks like for boys. If you are a teacher or parent who wants to inspire young male learners to love learning, this book will help to set the stage. While discussing the 6 secrets, Ed includes valuable strategies for classroom instruction; his practical tips are terrific and easy to implement. Ed has provided fun ways to help boys stay engaged and consolidate important skills. As an elementary principal, I recognize the importance of this text for all teachers. It will be an important part of our professional development to ensure that we are creating an academically unique environment where boys may reach their potential.
