Well-written and insightful

It is a fascinating story and horrific subject matter to begin with. It lends itself well to be told in this format. The story is told as an almost procedural account of Kotz�'s trial and it actually gives the narrative good structure. Karyn Maughan is a seasoned South African legal journalist and it shows in the text. The author has a clear grasp of the legal process; clear enough to keep jargon out and the writing focused on the human tragedy and characters. Well worth reading for anybody.

Getting into the mind of a monster

One of my preferred reads is that of non-fiction crime stories. I was interested in getting to grips with the understanding of what pushed the perpetrator of this horrific crime to plot , execute and try every possible way evade the rule of law. On the crime scene reads, i much preferred the structure and story line of "Fruit of a poisoned tree", there is no comparison between these two crime reads.

'Every dog has his day' and 'the wheel turns' - 2 phrases that come to mind when reading this book. It is encouraging to see justice being served in SA today. Lets hope other victims such as Anene and Chanelle are also as lucky....not that justice will help them now that they are dead and buried.
