Practical guide with human flair

Charles O'leary has provided therapists and counselors-in-training with a wonderful practical guide to treating couples and families. The author's knowledge of the subject matter is obvious as he situates the Person-Centered approach amongst many other models of treatment. What I particualry appreciate is how O'Leary brings the reader into the consultation room, so we know his teachings come from real life experience. It also gives the trainee very practical hands on evidence and guidence in utilizing the theory. I enjoyed his humility and well-earned certainty and clarity of writing. This is a must read for graduate level trainees and those practitioners wishing to learn more about how to work with systems from a Person-Centered Approach!

I highly recommend this book to practitioners and students alike. In it's unimposing way - It almost looks like a manual - it is packed with information summarizing a very important and actively growing branch of psychotherapy for couples and families. It's exciting and informative to read and is written in an efficient and well organized, but easy to read, style, which helps the reader gain quick access to a store of information vital to the field. Without much effort or time invested, the reader gains a quick and understandable over-view of the theory and application of person-centered, systemic methods to the treatment of families and couples. It's just great stuff!
