Classic everyday poetry

I marvel that a man wrote so many poems about the pedestrian, but nonetheless important things in life. Where is our current "people's poet"? In another time and place I hope shake this man's hand. Immersing myself in this poetry is at once refreshing and induces a bit of nostalgia for a time in American culture I never lived through when old fashion decency and simple living were much more common and popular. Edgar Guest was very prolific and I have collected a few old books of his writings that I consider treasures. My young children enjoy hearing me read it to them. It is simple poetry to understand, yet evokes penetrating introspection, and for me at least, gets my mind off of the bothersome nonsensical matters of the current age that I feel powerless to do anything about. These verses remind me that what matters most is the quality of the inner character and would that all people could just take this wholesomeness with us.

A great find with great service.

I have grown up on the poems of this tiny volume... And having now moved out on my own, and starting to build my own library, began to look for this great book.... And nothing would do but the same edition that I knew so well. I was most pleased to find it here in such good shape. The description was accurate, and shipping prompt. The book is in great shape considering its age... Published in1923 and inscripted from Christmas 1925... I am most satisfied with my purchase!!

Book was in good condition for a 1919 publication, However, it was lacking the dust cover as shown in the picture.
